Droogte: Mosselbaai

•November 24, 2009 • 2 Comments

Holiday

We’ve just returned from a FAMILY/SURFING/PHOTO holiday to Indonesia  -  got skunked for waves and light – at least it was GOOD to hang with the family.

The long “high tide” paddle at Lakey Peak, Sumbawa. I am dead and drowning by the time that I reach the “line-up” (swimming with the waterhousing) and then treading water for 2-3 hours before the long swim back – definitely not for the old and unfit !!!

Luckily I got rewarded for all the effort – Shaun enjoying a brief moment of clear skies.

Vroue Monument

Did the history tour thing today and visited the “Vroue Monument” in Bloemfontein. This monument honors the women and children that died in the British concentration camps during the Boer war in the early 1900’s. My gran lost her siblings in the Aliwal North camp and the subject was always taboo in her house (Burgersdorp)……I sometimes had the impression that she felt guilty or regretted surviving the camp. Sadly, she lost her mind and passed away before ever discussing her experience with us.

Seal

There’s always a few local seals hanging around Outer Pool, Mossel Bay, and can give you quite a “skrik” if they suddenly pop-up right next to you. This one is a bit of a show-off…….”this is how you do an air-reverse fin drag double grab duck dive fruit salad turn boys…..see if you can do THAT !!!”

The unmistakable silhouette of the wooden structure at Lakey Peak , Sumbawa, Indonesia – a wonderful place to watch surfing when the perfect A-frame is firing.
